So true! This realization formed a major turning point in my life as a young adult. I think it's a normal part of adult development--sooner or later, you figure out that your survival depends on how well you play the hand you were dealt, regardless of how crappy the cards look. Well, a saavy player can win big if they know how to finesse a pair of two's!
What you're describing sounds a lot like issues I've heard SGAs talk about. Not that they don't also apply to FGAs, but there is a difference in how younger & older folk deal with adaptation and transition issues.
