Findings from a study published this summer in the American Journal of Psychiatry raise new questions about different forms of child abuse and their relative impact on mental health. In particular, the findings raise the possibility that verbal abuse during childhood can have an impact on mental health that is equal to, or even greater than, other forms of abuse that are typically thought of as more damaging.
