Good analysis.

This is another case of everyone's experience being different. I joined in part because I wanted to be celibate and get out of the hippie love nest thing. In the beginning, we did live strictly celibate, but if you listened to where Berg was going in the very earliest days...maybe I heard where he was going because I was done with being seductive or getting seduced.

Do you remember "Mountain Maid"--? Around '71, COG were run out of Ohio for distributing that ML up in Akron. Maybe you didn't see the racier MLs when you first joined? I did.

Certain groups that joined COG may not have seen the sexier MLs until much later than other new members who joined as individuals. I seem to recall something about leadership intentionally deceiving Jesus People groups on the west coast and in Atlanta about its true teachings on sins of the flesh. I can remember when COG's true sexual ethos was explained to me by my tribe leader very early on in my membership, and she said something about this being a secret kept from JPAs. "We don't want to break their bottles yet."

Funny how memories come back. Lord, I do remember that girl who did my first training. I can't remember her name, only that she provisioned my grandmother's wristwatch off of me because she was a leader and "had need of it." Sounds like she was cut out for TFI, eh? I do not wish her ill, though. At least she was honest with me.
