Abiding by the Rules of the Game

If Peters is a tithing member of TFI, anywhere between 10% to 14% of his yearly earnings will go to the leadership and WS. That money is then used for the promotion of doctrines like Loving Jesus. I find that doctrine revolting. Furthermore, the criminal leadership of TFI have a debt to society and their victims that taxpaying citizens pick up every time a former Family member ends up in a psychiatric hospital, jail cell, or dead on a morgue slab.

Peters presents himself in the media as a conservative, evangelical Christian. If he is a tithing member of TFI, Peters has misrepresented himself in an effort to defraud the public. If that is the case, he has brought a curse on his work through his own choices. While I think the underground railroad work he is doing is extremely commendable and should be supported as a matter of principle, as a donor I also have a right to full disclosure regarding Peters financial obligations. The article creates the impression he is a Presbyterian or at least affiliated with that church.

Regardless of what you might have learned in TFI, the ends do not justify the means. Perhaps it would help if the site provided a Bible study on why a servant of Christ cannot use the work of God an excuse to deceive and defraud the public. Why not take a short cut and look up the meaning of "antinomism"?

Is there some administrative rule under which FCF can assure me that some portion of my donation to Peters' ministry won't end up in the hands of Zerby, Smith & Company? Does Peters' provide FCF and the public with a yearly income and expenditures report that shows how donations are disbursed? This is what a legitimate NGO will do.

I have to admit that I had mixed feelings about this situation, because I truly believe it is important to support the underground railroad in Korea and elsewhere in SE Asia. It also occurs to me that a member of a shady organization like TFI, with its longstanding ties to organized crime through FFing in various parts of the world, is best networked to do exactly this kind of work. Nevertheless, if I'm going to support it, I have a right to know I'm paying for the connections of a criminal organization that has a history of trafficking women and children.

Once Peters' stepped out onto the world stage as an actor in the movement for social justice and nonviolent resistence, he entered a game with a set of rules that applies to everyone. Peters' can't have it both ways: He can't pretend to represent a legitimate NGO and be an evangelical Christian ministry while maintaining support for a criminal organization that has destroyed as many lives as it may have saved. This isn't a hate campaign. It's just abiding by the rules of the game.
