My best guess where those stories might be is any of the letters where he goes into detail about his life prior to the COG. For example, wasn't there a series of letters based on his diaries, describing his army career, such as it was, his meeting and wooing Jane, etc.? I do remember reading what you're looking for, just can't remember where.
