Berg has a pretty fantastic estimation of his virility. It's possible to miscarry a baby due to sexual activity--particularly in the first trimester, but bashing its brains in with a penis? I don't think so.
The idea of violent sex when Eve was far along in her pergnancy suggests the possibility that what Berg actually did was physically beat Eve when she was in her second or third trimester--perhaps because she declined sexual contact. Sad fact is, women are at much higher risk of battering by violent spouses during pregnancy.
If Berg beat Eve up in a later stage of her pregnancy, the baby might have been stillborn or spontaneously aborted. That would have been a hell of a beating, though. I've interviewed battered women who've taken beatings during their pregnancies, and it seems to take a lot of trauma to spontaneously abort an otherwise healthy pregnancy. Pregnant women get beaten up more than you might think, and fortunately, they don't autonomatically lose the baby as a result.
