At first I didn't think I agreed with the idea that the other webmaster stole the data. It sounds sort of harsh. But, then again, if you walk into a store and there is a box of candy bars out on the shelf, and the candy bars aren't locked up, it's still understood that you aren't supposed to take them and use them for your own purposes.

I did make a mistake in the way I configured the software. Of course, in my own defense, there was nothing in the documentation that indicated that the directory in question should not be placed in the webspace. Some boards openly publish IP addresses, this has been done on some ex-member sites from time to time.

But, we had agreed that we would not make that information available, and it was sloppy work on my part that anybody, even a skilled person was able to find it and use it. I do accept responsibility for that, and I did the only thing one can do in that sort of situation. I corrected the error, and so far nothing like it has happened since.

There have been a number of hacking attempts, some successful, on ex-member sites. I'm not sure which one you are referring to. Most recently, Sword of the Lord was hacked probably by an outside person. I had nothing to do with that site. I know Sam Ajemian's site vanished for quite some time, then showed up again (not sure if that was a hack or what). xFamily.org (the wiki site) was basically erased not long after it started by a malicious script that was uploaded to the site. NDN was knocked offline a few months ago due to a DOS attack.

On the other side, I think myconclusion.com has been hacked once or twice already.

You are correct, shit does happen.
