Am I right to assume you hail from Houston?
I watched a news report tonight about how Houston has taken in hundres of thousands of refugees from New Orleans. I was seriously impressed with how the social service providers, child-serving agencies (schools, etc.), law enforcement, and city officials (politicans) are working together to improve the quality of life of all citizens, particularly the refugees. IMO, that's what a worthwhile life on the planet is all about.
No mention of the Houston Animal Cops on this news segment, but I know that if they're taking care of the kids, they're also taking care of the animals. Hope my sense of irony doesn't offend anyone, but ppl in the US were concerned about cruelty to animals long before they thought about what constitutes child abuse. The two issues are significantly related.
