I really do not wish to see a sterile confrontation on this issue, because I think several of the posters involved have got points they agree on. I also think each person is speaking from their individual experience and their personal experience. I think it would be possible to agree on the following points:
1) There are people in the medical field (shit, in ANY field for that matter) who don't know how to do their job and overprescribe or too easily dish out certain kinds of medications
2) In the US the health field is a for profit field so naturally you will find a lot of corruption and for profit schemes in it.
Any substance or medication can have positive or negative effects. People are different, and circumstances are different. It is important to find a GOOD physician when trying to address problems. Unfortunately with HMO's this is hard and for people with no insurance (millions of Americans) this is even harder if not impossible.
