Re: about Watchman and your questions

In Reply to: My main point is the question I posed posted by Daniel on February 17, 2006 at 02:20:04:

No, Watchman was NOT on SSRI's and was very sensitive to SSRI's like many people whose issues stem from severe and protracted trauma. The only medications that seemed to help somewhat out of the many and prolonged trials in what was available in the field were narcotics and anxiety reducers. I won't get into specific pharmacological details because I think there is no point to that in this forum. I would rather talk to people with experience in the treatment of trauma in the medical and mental health field.

It all depends on personal biochemistry but in general SSRI's tend to be boosters and many people suffering from severe PTSD (hypervigilance, hyperarousal, intrusive memories, and a general fucking up of the autonomic nervous system) do not need the severe anxiety to be boosted. It is like having your nervous system on permanent alert -- I think a serious look at trauma studies and PTSD (very recent stuff, covering one or 2 decades at most) could be more useful than wild speculation.

It would be more helpful to frame the question in a different way: if you and some friends of yours have had bad experiences with SSRI's then talk about yours or your friends'experiences. That would be a better way to have a conversation.
