When you think about it, the RCC can't hide. They are a legitimate organization and their membership is being scourged for ignoring criminal acts and even protecting their clergy for it. They have been called to account for it and that is good. You are right in saying there are some, actually many Catholic clergy that are not corrupted or covering for those that are.
The Family on the other hand are grifters and grifters are criminals that are very hard to catch. Making it even harder is the fact that Maria and Peter stay in hiding NEVER facing the public as leadership of the Family organization.
You don't see RCC using phony passports, numerous aliases and hiding out from the general public.
I think the basic difference is that the Family is a criminal organization. Even big name Don's appear in public eating out at their favorite restaurants with body guards along. But the public knows who they are.
Maria and Peter are in hiding and lead the lives of fugitives because that is ESSENTIALLY WHAT THEY ARE. They may or may not have legal charges pending against them currently but if they do not, if they were to become PUBLIC and not hide out, I am sure they would face that eventuality.
