Reading posts below sparked this thought. A couple things come to mind: first, women who had a special connection to Berg personally were elevated to leadership positions early on even back in the quasi-Pentecostal stage, such as Eve, Faithy & Rachel.
For much of the Family's history, women were 2nd class citizens, & the average woman was definitely supposed to be subservient, be there to 'meet the man's needs' etc. even tho a few were elevated to high authority. But I did notice back in the late 80's how when Maria began to be in charge that a lot of women began being elevated to top leadership positions, whether openly acclaimed as such or simply given the power in offices.
Often those women leaders were the formerly tag-along wives of top male leaders. But when the men were humbled & politically castrated, their wives were tapped to leadership. I guess Maria figured that they'd been learning all the lessons all along from living with their husbands. Plus I think Maria found the women leaders more 'loyal' to her than men had been.
And of course there were/are secretaries with considerable clout & power, not mere Girl Fridays but influencers.
I wonder what the male/female proportions of open or behind-the-scenes leadership is now?
