good points.
since you are mentioning perception and feelings then clarification will always be necessary because we cannot know anybody's feelings. We use text. It was not my intent to be offensive, and while it is true that the details were different about people who met Berg or Manson I think it is important to think about what was similar. Almost all the testimonies I heard from that time in California from people who joined early were about drugs, going away from home, seeking something different, which may be considered normal at that age and also in the context of the 60's in California. It is almost like preparation meets opportunity and it took several factor for the lethal recipe that became TF. But what I was stressing was the relationship between the leader and the follower, the abdication of personal will and being willing to do anything: have sex with a child, have sex with any adult because I am told to, move here or there because I am told to, pray for someone to be killed, be a warden in a prison camp, beat and or torture children...the list is long.
That is why I said I think it is important to look at the context of the 60's and what was happening then as the historical period was a fertile ground for what took place later.
