I don't understand the surprise and shock for many reasons. As far as I am concerned the WHOLE Family experience is a concoction of "weird meets sick." Now you can look at the entire ML production and think what you will, but as far as I am concerned I would not spend too much time trying to understand if when Berg and co. did or said something they 'thought' they were being 'truthful' at the time or not. Most likely we will never know the exact percentage of "genuine" (or not) weirdness + malice + sickness.

For a lot of first generation exers, particularly American (but not only) these issues seem to be very important. Can someone explain why to me? Why is it so important to try to figure out or separate the sick from the weird from the allegedly made up? If Berg had not been drunk and you did not know this, would you consider the A. revelation a "revelation?" Do you really think Berg had "revelations?" This is so surreal to me, so how do you try to establish the 'real' if you can only do that by entering in the surreal?
