This subject has come up before, since I've been at NDN. It's probably searchable in our archives, if anybody's interested.
I first heard about Maria and ______ inventing Abrahim in around 1995, from someone who was very close to them both at the time, and who still maintains contact with the latter. That person told me that it all started out as threesome sex romp at the Ranch.
The girls thought it would be fun to get Berg drunk, and since they had recently come into contact with a gypsy group, and he was excited about his just-acquired "gift of tongues", they had the idea of telling him about a gypsy king that spoke through him.
Berg latched on to the idea with so much enthusiasm, though, that story grew out of all proportion. Berg began to attribute words and attitudes to Abrahim -- especially sexual and racial attitudes -- in order to indirectly justify his own. To cap it off, and assure Abrahim's acceptance, he got a "revelation" that, in spite of how un-Christian Abrahim sounded, he was "actually" a Christian martyr who had died at the hands of Muslim Turks.
So what began as a lark took on a life of its own and became another way of manipulating us into believing things that we otherwise would have had trouble accepting.
