so, things have settled down? Hope so. There seems to be a lot of trouble all over the world. Sigh.

I think people are forgetting how to integrate people into a culture. My parents were immigrants and we suffered a lot of racism. There were actual writings in the mortages of neighborhoods that wouldn't allow houses to be sold not only to people of color, but to "peoples of the Ottomon empire" (that would be us). My parents couldn't buy a house where they wanted to live, our race was not allowed to attend the university. But the thing I remember the most about my parents was that we were first and foremost Americans and they never, ever lamented the prejudices they must have faced daily. They excelled in spite of it. There were still plenty of opportunities to go around and kind enough people to help us along.

It's kind of an irony that there were all those prejudices in place, yet Americans for the most part are such an accomodating people.
