When I was in the Family and I visited my relatives after a few years for a homegoing...
I was watching the Phil Donahue show and he was interviewing a group of KU KLUX KLAN members, mostly woman and children, so I watched it.
I was amazed and somewhat shocked to hear that they sounded so much like Berg in their subtleties and not so subtle overt racism and anti-semitism. Mo letter after letter flashed before me and I started thinking, God I would never want to join them. Yet, I had joined the Family.
I had joined the Family with a muddled hope for Christian utopian faith, what I slowly realised was happening was a concerted propaganda campaign by the leaders of the cult that was leading me to a strange and narrow place of blind obedience.
I didn't have the critical skills or wherewithal at the time, years ago, when I watched the TV show to make an informed decision to avert the tragedy of wasting my life in a cult -- I had kids and a wife that were scattered in various cult programs, and it would take years and years of personal growth and will power to reject the darkness of racism, anti-semitism, and willful ignorance.
