In reading over these documents, one thing that confused me was figuring out how Aaron Paul Berg could be legally married to both Sarah Berg and Judy Arlene Helmstetler (aka Shulamite) at the same time time. According to the Lefkowitz report, "she [Sarah Berg] obtained a final decree of divorce in 1973."
It doesn't say exactly when she escaped from TSC (I assume this is what they mean when they refer to the Thurber, Texas commune) or when she later returned there to try to find her son but it must have been before October 1971 (when the COG left after receiving a notice of eviction from Fred Jordan). Unless Sarah Berg and Judy/Shulamite are the same person (which seems unlikely), it seems Aaron "married" someone else after he separated from Sarah. However, he was still legally married to Sarah Berg at the time he took on another wife. This is not surprising as other sections of the Lefkowitz report mention David Berg solemnizing the marriage of people who were already married.
If anyone has additional information about when Paul Berg (Aaron) married Sarah Berg and when he married Judy/Shulamite, it would be greatly appreciated.
