I'd say it was most likely suicide that was preventable had it not been for his neglectful "dad" who knew he was depressed, yet ousted him from the inner circle. As "dad's" callousness showed from the "Last State" quotation, his "dad" believed in kicking someone when they were down. That is like giving a suicidal person a loaded gun and telling them, "Go ahead, shoot yourself".
