I think quite a lot of violence in TFI was/is directed toward the children, because they are a "safe" group on which to unleash pent-up frustration. It may be that the beatings are not as severe as they once were, but from what I read, there is quite a lot of face-slapping that still goes on. Face-slapping is not acceptible as child discipline due to the risk of injury to the head and neck. It is also a profound psychological assault to hit someone in the face.
