I'n not sure what your point is, unless it is simply to point out the similarities between these two characters? An obvious difference is that one was a real person and the other fictional. Also, I don't think the Roman Catholics have quite the same pantheon of strange spirit helpers that The Family has. The RC church also has a fairly rigorous process by which a departed person becomes an interceding saint (though it seems they're willing to fast track certain "stars" like the last pope). In TF's world any character, even fictional ones, can be a spirit helper. There's even a story floating around these sites that someone in TF once received a prophecy through the spirit of Art Linkletter, even though he was alive at the time.
I don't know the history of the Catholic church as well as TF's, so I don't know if the story of Maria Goretti you've related here was used to indoctrinate and abuse young girls in the same way that the Heaven's Girl story was in TF. Now that would be a worthwhile comparison.
