I think it would be useful not to use the word 'abuse' as it lends itself to rhetorical games. Instead one may say:
-being beaten, hit, etc. detailing the action
-being touched, fondled, made to perform oral sex, etc. (keep detailing sexual acts)
-being deprived of food, sleep, put in isolation
Then it is not a question of 'perception' of the word abuse, it is about the acts and actions. Forget the 'done in love.' James himself said 'how sick' about that. I conclude that James agrees that Zerby, Berg, and the people in the Family who committed those acts on children (or coerced adults as well) are SICK.
