Thanks for taking time to explain.
It just struck me as odd. I have kind of the opposite experience from Jim, I guess. I was never in the cult, but married someone who was and ended up raising her kids from the cult as my own. Sadly, one passed away, and the other (who I legally adopted) is now 27 years old. I'm only 19 years older than him.
It was quite an interesting experience, being that young, and to instantly have this family to support. The two other Dad's were still dedicated to the cult back then. I guess it kept them from interfering at all in our lives. But, at the same time, the child who survived lives with a lot of upset over the situation. His Father has left the cult and now wants to have a relationship, but my son, so far wants nothing to do with him. He's a grown man now, and it is up to him, since his natural Father actively rejected him when he reached out as a child.
The whole thing is very sad as it applies to the kids, and the broken families and relationships that have come about as the result.
