I've thought about this but there are a couple of arguments against it for me:
1) Given my history, objectivity when studying others might be difficult.
2) I am a little late in the whole education game and I need to get into a job that will more than pay my bills.
3) I'm familiar with the tenure requirements for academic faculty and I'm not too keen on it.
I like sociology. I find it interesting. I am a big fan of Professor Kent, but it's not for me.
