He is there and knows what he is talking about. I admire someone who throws protocol to the wind when desperate measures are needed for the unprecedented catastrophe that is occurring in New Orleans now. Even NOPD had to loot to supply themselves with food and water.
No one likes the looters that grabbed loads of non-necessary items like carts full of VCR's, plasma TV's etc. The mayor of N.O. also mentioned that there were addicts roaming the sts who had not had their fix and yes there is violence. But people get desperate (not talking about needless looting) when it comes to a disaster like this.
There were some people stealing shoes for children and it was because their feet were burning on the hot pavement of an overpass they had made it to. They had lost their shoes even, in the suddeness of the disaster when the levees broke. Police were trying to make them drop the shoes.
I admire what General Honoree said to the NOPD who had fortified themselves on top of the PD hdqtrs with police snipers on the roof. He told them: "please, put down you weapons and come down, this is not Iraq"
Those that took non necessary items won't get far with them. The worst of human nature comes out in a crisis but so does the best of it. And there was the best of it out there too. But in the midst of complete lack of information, these peope were told to go to the convention center and wait for buses.. and thousands went there..well NO BUSES CAME. At least 3 days people were without water, food, medicines.
I think I would have died if I got stuck there. I can't imagine the stench, the raw sewage, the sweltering heat, mosquitoes and no respite. No known way out. No security regarding the future. For those that will have one that is.
