I am asking exactly these questions myself.
I find his apparent decision to take what Family sources tell him at face value about the MO website (or this one, for that matter) absolutely astonishing. A true scholar will always do his or her own research on original source material. If someone told me there was a discussion of me and my work going on at website, I'd take the time to read what was being said for myself before asking the webmaster to address the issues he's raised.
I sense that he truly likes many TFI members he's gotten to know, and therefore trusts them. Well, it's true--there are some good people in that organization who make very effective PR fronts for the criminal leadership. That's the history and "strength" of TFI, imo. There have always been good, dedicated people on the front lines taking the heat for lying sociopaths at the top.
