The Justice System, imo, is not the best place to compile stats to back up abuse and neglect and molestation. Here is why I say that:
I know way too many people personally who are not poor whose wealth has prevented them from getting help or suffering consequences. Wealthier or non-poor abusers/batterers often keep out of the justice system via engaging private services or having connections to have them let off the hook.
Recent case in point: Michael Jackson.
My parents were both well connected with power positions in society. Not Rockefellers or anything like that, but I was sexually abused and neglected as well as severely abused physically.
I had a few teachers who sent me home with notes to my parents regarding concerns but they were the ones that got in trouble or were warned to back off. Had I been in a poor household, I would have probably been taken out of my household to foster hell.
I say that because I know that foster kids often are abused. Did you see the film "White Oleander"? Sad.
So we can agree to disagree, I do believe that abuse of all sorts is an equal op. tragedy.
