Have you ever asked a drunk alcoholic, "Are you drunk?" The alky's going to say "Oh no not today, but well I got kinda drunk last night." Or "No I don't get drunk I can hold it." all kinds of denial. I think it does compare.
With cult control there's a lot of denial (compartmentalizing) and absence of respoonsibility too.
What you do when you're under the influence you are responsible for it, whether alcohol or a cult, that's the way I see it.
