I agree, but when someone first leaves the Family, it takes times to peel back the layers of the onion & even admit that the Family is a cult & they were wrong, etc. not only in staying in the Family, but in specific deeds they've done.
Peter's first major hurdle will be to contact his son and admit the above AND sincerely apologize for having kidnapped him. I imagine even if he HAS left (which he may or may not have done), that he has a lot of thinking to do before he's ready to apologize.
