Finding current curriculum--Isn't that why the Internet was invented?
IMO, the issue for kids doing internet research on cutting edge topics is developing the capacity to critically evaluate the validity of the claims being made. Just because an idea sounds good doesn't make it a sound idea.
Here's where the great divide starts to happen: People with a fundamentalist, authoritarian orientation will evaluate an idea by the standard of truths of a longstanding tradition, e.g., the Bible. People with a constructivist, process orientation will be more comfortable suspending judgment about the soundness of an idea and evaluate it from various critical perspectives.
People in the first group risk not going very far afield in their exploration of knowledge about life's mysteries, and people in the second group risk getting completely lost. It's maybe a problem of finding a balance between the anchor and the sail.
