During the Colonial period (250 years ago), age of consent was as low as six years old in some of the U.S. colonies. During that era, children were viewed as little adults. When you consider the fact that the civil rights of adult women during that period were no greater than that or children or cattle, age of consent becomes a somewhat irrelevant concept.
