If your friend knows anything that would help this case & wants to speak out, I'd say for the sake of abused kids, he should stop dancing among the daisies for a while. I think all that most lawyers (if this ever goes to court) ask is questions like, 'Have you used drugs within the last 6 months.' I don't know because but that's what I heard.
As for the FBI then intruding on his privacy, I don't know that they'd even ask that question in the first place, would they? But if they did, he should be prepared to say, 'I have used it occasionally but stopped using it 6 months ago.'
