There was a protracted argument on this topic on Open House at NDN the past few days & the coordinators there finally declared a moratorium on the debate. While I have no desire to put a lid on discussions here, I don’t wish to see the exact same tone of debate open up on this board—perhaps by some of the same worried posters. So allow me to set some ground rules for any discussion over the LaMatteries and the FBI investigation they are spearheading. I also have followed the posts on Open House and have come to my own conclusion which is different than Wondering’s.
It is my opinion that while Jim LaMattery started this present push to contact the FBI & the IRS specifically to go after Philip Sloan, who apparently horribly abused his daughter, what is happening now is not a LaMattery ‘personal vendetta.’ Jim and others are the catalysts, but it is important to keep in mind that this whole investigation is taking on a life of its own & will soon outgrow the original facilitators. It is the FBI—not Jim LaMattery or anyone else—who will examine the affidavits & determine exactly what kind of action should be taken. I don’t pretend to understand what will happen when the machinery begins rolling, but I do know that the FBI will make up their own mind & will not become a posse for anyone’s personal ‘witch hunt’ as you put it.
I don’t wish to quash discussion on the subject, but vague statements such as the LaMatteries ‘seeming to have personal vendettas’ are not very enlightening. The following kind of statements will especially not be tolerated: ‘You may find yourself persuaded to join in on their own personal witch hunt, working for them and their agenda.’ This borders on personal attacks which are not allowed on this board. Questions like Susie asks above, on the other hand, are an example of legitimate posts, and I have read some highly-intelligent posts questioning Jim on Open House as well.
If these guidelines seem strict, it is because I do not intend to see a repeat of the kind of posts on Open House that the coordinators there finally had to ban altogether.
