Well, let me tell you something.
This kind of stuff happens a lot, except in this case it is exceptionally dramatic and exceptionally horrible.
My younger sister was molested when she was about 7-8 years old. It was the husband of one of my mother's cousins. He was a policeman! When we visited his place he would take my sister and his son into a room while other people talked and he would make them touch him.
My sister was very intimidated but eventually she told the story. I'll save you a long story but what happened was that my family never saw his family again, he stayed married with his wife and kids, and nothing really happened to him. He was molesting his own children. Some people in our family PREFERRED believing that it was not true, for the sake of convenience and to keep relations with them. It really comes down to a choice, a hard choice.
Now, this is a case a million time worse, with incredible substantiated evidence. But do you suppose Deyo and Zerby CAN stare truth in the face? Do you realize what that implies? They don't want to know the truth. It is so much better and safer for them to keep their sanity, because the truth in this case can kill, and we have proof of it. They will keep the party line, shift and spread blame, blame the victim, because it is the most convenient way to proceed. The alternative is equivalent to ending life "as they know it."
