I agree with your analysis. For someone voluntarily joining the Family, 'kidnapping' is not an accurate term. Perhaps 'hoodwinked' or 'deceived' would be more accurate.
But it is true that the Family was involved in kidnapping -- at least of children. An example is Jane Berg (Mother Eve) grabbing Mene from her mother, jumping in the car and taking off, with her mother Shulamite not seeing Mene for another ten years. And that happened again and again in the Family.
I once talked to the husband of one of the most high-up childcare workers, many years ago, and he had just been talking to his wife and came to me astonished. He said, "I knew we kept kids from their system parents but man! I didn't know how MUCH we did it! We're just like the gypsies!"
This would be a whole other subject to explore: Family kidnapping of children. I don't know what state you're in, but even a father without custody grabbing his kids and running across the country is usually considered kidnapping.
But kidnapping adults, no.
