Yes, people will do just about anything if they are told it's for God, etc. We have misused that story about Abraham and sacrificing his son incorrectly. And also the story of Annanais and Sapharia - gee, we thought we were going to be struck down dead. These things were not explained in the right manner to us and those people that used the Bible to scare us into submission are going to be like the verse where it says it will be worse than having a millstone hung around their necks and drowned in the sea - so says the Bible.
