The website you listed says William Deyo is their son-in-law so apparently Jeannie Deyo is their daughter and Karen Zerby's sister. According to the 990s, for some years William Deyo received a salary and for other years he received no salary. According to another statement, the Deyos own 20% of Journeys End LLC.
There is still no concrete evidence that I have been able to find that proves that Maria/Karen/Katherine or someone acting on her behalf provided money to buy the property. However, the fact that Susan Joy Kauten/Angela Smith was on the board of directors raises serious questions. Regardless of how great their organization may be, it is morally wrong for them to accept money from TF. It is dirty money and anyone who knows its source and still accepts it has unclean hands.
However, we should not jump to any conclusions or make accusations until we have definitive proof. For starters though, the Zerbys should explain exactly why Angela Smith was on the board of directors of Elderhaven. Perhaps the Zerby nephew who posted on this site awhile back could make some enquiries.
