Wasn't 1985 or 1986 the year that there was worldwide media expose' on the Family about incest & sex with minors? The media was hot here in the States!
Did Mo & Maria worry that the media or exmembers might contact Maria's parents & did they decide it was worth it to sink a huge amount of cash into her parents as hush money & help them found Elderhaven? Maybe the Zerby's were ignorant about Maria's motives & didn't know it was hush money but they should've guessed.
