I think at some point that Maria and a few chosen predators will take the money, disappear/retire and leave the remaining family members holding the bag. It is what serial thieves, abusers and liars usually do when they have extracted the maximum amount the prey will yield. Like the hyena (sp) they will chew the last of the bones down into shards before moving on from their blood bath. The only things such beasts leave behind is the lingering smell of death and large piles of their stinking scat. GFDTA
