I agree that the tragedy is cause to be in mourning, but my New Year celebration will be more centered on HOPE. HOPE for a better planet starting with that little tiny speck in the planet called me. HOPE also that at times which are quite darkened by wars and disasters that continue in history, that I can be a cell in the body of Hope. I am glad for the people like Doctors Without Borders who are young and/or healthy enough to go over to countries in crisis and work on medical assistance and sanitation. I have very little, but at times like this every few bucks adds up. I have never made a New Year's resolution before but I think I will this year. It won't be a rule, just an aspiration. I want to look for what is positive and good in the world, and what is accomplishing positive and good in times of distress.
I realize some people are canceling elaborate parties to send funds to Orgs. providing relief. I think that is great.
I was wondering how many Australians have been affected by this tragedy as I know many vacation in that part of the world? A friend from Sweden said that her country will be having a time of sorrow for about 3400 or 3500 Swedes who lost their lives in this tragedy. That is a huge loss for Sweden as it is a small country.
I am glad that so much relief is headed to South East Asia for the survivors of this horrible tragedy. I also hope that countries like Sweden are consoled and assisted in their time of crisis. I didn't realize how broad the spectrum of this disaster was until the past few days.
