I agree. I'm finding myself glued to the TV just like I was during 9/11. This is a very desperate time for so many people, and it's good to see the outpouring of humanitarian efforts and aid.
And as one newscastor pointed out, this is not just a mass tragedy, but the sum total of tens of thousands of personal tragedies. One of the most gut-wrenching stories I heard was yesterday of a mother with two small children caught in the incoming flood and she couldn't hold them both and stay alive so made the heartbreaking choice to let the older, heavier child go. He was swept away while she saved the younger child, but he managed against all odds to survive, holding onto a floating door and eventually being reunited with his mom and younger brother.
I guess it reminds me so much of the decisions many people have been forced to make when leaving the Family, when it was impossible to take all the kids because the other mate had them.
