What you say about friends in the cult is very true, and in most cases I'd agree that we didn't really have 'friends' in the cult. But I did have a few very close friends, people I could just talk with and not worry about getting in trouble later. Usually they were the ones who were on the 'bench' themselves, or who knew they weren't very 'spiritual' and so they could just be themselves and accept me that way as well. Or they were people who weren't trying to get into a 'leadership' position, and so were more relaxed and easy to hang with.
