Thanks for the thoughts you guys. They're very much appreciated. I've always felt that putting the kids' education first was most important as otherwise they'll go very deep in debt (lasting decades) on student loans. But like was mentioned, treating what little you can put away for retirement as non-existent even for emergencies.
So far we've always felt, well, when we get ahead in our bills, THEN we'll start retirement savings, but looking at it that way, that day might never come. Better to be like the ant and put away a few grains at a time.
