The part about the isolated babes farm sure sounds familiar- I was on one south of Paris, France and I remember the regular weekly faith trips from there as being a lot of fun, but getting that last ride to the farm was pretty darn tough! We never called and asked for a ride, though...but I remember walking for hours and hours a couple of times.
I also remember cold water "baths" in the farm bathroom, standing in line with the other girls to be immersed in cold water in the cool early French springtime. Or eating sweetened "milo" and milk- a couple spoonfuls and it'd swell, and never a problem getting enough roughage, ha.
I also remember first thing in the morning, each babe would be sent out into the huge yard/grounds to find a quiet spot to read and pray for 15 minutes and the emphasis on starting your day by talking with the Lord- a good habit which has stood me well. Or the fun of devotions, reading one verse each from the Bible around the circle- one person reading in French, one in English, one in Spanish, one in Danish, one in Finnish, and one young Frenchman who couldn't read at all and began learning to do so.
There were also some way less pleasant memories- I have those too, but see no point in dwelling on them and prefer to remember the good and let the bad sit, not forgotten but not dwelt on either.
