I agree, the interpretations are questionable. But, seriously, the sources themselves are even more so. Thus you have questionable interpretations based on questionable writings by, in many cases, anonymous writers. Throw in the fact that many of the books in the Bible as we know it today were tampered with thousands of years ago and you begin to wonder why people swear on a Bible.

When I left the Family I wanted to make sure I did not throw out the baby with the bathwater and dumped my faith simply becasue I didn't agree with the Family's doctrines. So I studied and researched many of the passages in the Bible (comparing the English texts to the Hebrew and Greek if necessary) so I could be certain of what it was I was basing my faith on.

What I ended up discovering was that the Bible as we know it today holds the contradictions it does and can be interpreted in so many ways simply because religious leaders in the early days of Christanity (including the early disciples) couldn't restrain themselves from mixing in their own doctrine into the writings--much like Maria did with Berg's teachings after he died.

If you don't believe me and are not afraid to to see what your faith is made of, you can research some of this on your own.

Most people never question their faith because they are too afraid to lose it. They are comfortable with their faith and are afraid they may discover that it was nothing more than paper; that their child-like faith is nothing more than immature faith.
