I know parents who home-school their children. They have to use state mandated materials which are provided for them (this is in Calif) and they have to go for regular testing with a certified teacher. In other words, the parents can't just give them some books to read, do their tests for them and consider them schooled. In fact, there is someone in my son's class who is home schooled but still comes to school on ocassion to take his tests. Do they do this where you are living? If not, I would alert the authorities, they would probably have them tested at a school site to see how they are progressing.
