You must enjoy suffering to answer these!
In my view, ultimately individuals have to wrestle with these issues and provide their own answers. In many cases, none of us here are capable of sitting in judgement of our peers.
I hope that by posting these questions and discussing the issues, that it will assist people in the task of assessing our own lives. Like Socrates, we don't have to know the answers, but it is healthy to ask the questions.
Another goal is to make it clear that very few SGs are ever going to express anything other than disdain for our generation, and they are certainly not going to see the huge majority of us as fellow victims.
This is the problem with the Rodney Kings among us. When they say, "Why can't we all just get along?" the metamessage to the SGs is clearly, "Why can't you SGs see things our way?" And my guess is that it will be a cold day in hell before that ever happens. They've been there, done that.
My point is that yes, there are and were victims among our generation -- no question. But don't try and mix that with the maltreatment that the SGs suffered because of us.
That's my two cents. We imposed on them all our lives. Let's not do it anymore. They don't like it.
One last thing: I understand the dangers of sweeping generalities. In one way, I'm talking about corporate guilt and/or responsibility -- our generation's guilt for their suffering. I think there are some disturbing elements of truth in the fact that if we tithed to the group, we possibly have some sort of responsibility for the suffering of the SGs.
