Perhaps you called me, but within days of my hearing about this from the friend, we spoke at length over the telephone about this issue. This was 1998 and in reflection I cannot recall who called who (so please forgive my assumption), however this specific event left a lasting impression on me. To me it was not just "another story to use against the group" but was a flesh and blood youth (barely out of their teens) who was suffering immensely and their pain, which I saw first and, and this specific incident affected me profoundly. I was still formulating many of my opinions at that point, but this particular one was crystalized then.
