Apart from having high income taxes and high gas taxes (while I believe the Canadian government owns on or two gas companies in Canada), there was also a 13% sales tax in Ontario the last time I was there. That wasn't a misprint: THERE WAS A 13% SALES TAX IN ONTARIO! I believe it came down to 6% for the province and 7% for the government.
That's how they pay for socialized medicine and child credits and all that. It has to come from somewhere. But then again, some people might enjoy paying $1.13 for every dollar that they spend.
On the other hand, $.13 isn't as much in Canada because the Canadian dollar isn't as strong as our American dollar : o )
