You are right-on-the-money about the importance of oil to our civilization, and I agree with you that we need to develop alternatives.
I recently learned that Rudolph Diesel's original diesel engine was designed to run on vegetable oil! He demonstrated it at the 1900 World's Fair, and used peanut oil as the fuel. America has the capability to be independant of foreign oil, we just need to knuckle down and do it!
One thing I disagree with you on:
Bush never claimed a link between Saddam and 9/11. Bush's political opponents and their buddies in the mainstream news media have created this myth.
Bush asserts, and the 9/11 commission found, that there were links between Al-Quaida and Saddam. Why do you think so many of the Al-Quaida leadership were found in Iraq? Also, it is a known fact that Saddam gave $25,000 to family members of Palestinian suicide bombers.
The 9/11 Irraq link is a straw-man set up by Bush's detractors, so they can knock it down.
